18. We offer melting and supply of titanium ingots from customer’s titanium scrap and titanium sponge on give-and-take basis.

The minimum quantity for manufacture of titanium ingots dia 630mm – 2500 kg.

 

The scrap should be supplied by customer in prepared condition for melting it into titanium ingots. The quality of melted ingots (the purity of titanium ingots chemical composition) depends on the quality of titanium sponge or titanium scrap.

According to customer’s specific order we can melt titanium ingots ASTM Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 5, Ti6Al4V, Grade 9 with low oxygen 0.04-0.08% and titanium ingots with oxygen content according ASTM specifications.

Also we will produce titanium ingots according to specific customers’ requirements.

 

Moreover, it is also possible to melt titanium ingots from titanium scrap of mixed grades with iron supplement. In case the customer does not require excellent quality, but is concerned about price we can offer melting of ingots from mixed scrap.

 

We will consider cooperation on give-and-take basis: supply of titanium ingots melted from you titanium scrap or sponge – titanium ingots ASTM Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 5, Ti6Al4V, Grade 9 or GOST VT1-0, VT1-00, OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6, VT6S, , VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 2V alloy, PT3V, PT7M.

The minimum order quantity of titanium ingots dia 370mm, 400mm, 630mm, 800mm – 2500 kg.

 

For all titanium ingots melted at our plant we give quality certificates either for the whole lot or for each separate titanium ingot if necessary.

In certificate all the technical details of titanium ingots are indicated: melting number, lot number, dimensions of titanium ingot (dia, length), total; weight of melted titanium ingots and weight of each titanium ingot, chemical composition of titanium ingot, including gases content in chemical composition of titanium ingots.

We supply titanium ingots either in turned (machined) condition or with surface after melting.

 

On customers’ request we can also make ultrasound (ultrasonic) testing of titanium ingots. The information about method of ultrasound testing of titanium ingots you may find on other pages of our website.

After ultrasonic testing of titanium ingots or titanium ingot we issue quality certificate with a mark that titanium ingots are ultrasonic tested.

In order to issue such certificate we make analysis of chemical composition. The analyses is carried out on the basis of titanium turnings or a small piece of titanium ingot, which are being stored at our plant for a definite time. This enables us to make the analysis once again to check the conformance of titanium ingot’s chemical composition to the figures indicated in certificate.

 

19. Manufacture and supply of titanium ingots and titanium slabs
ASTM Grade 1; ASTM Grade 2; ASTM Grade 3, ASTM Grade 4; Ti6Al/4V; ASTM Grade 5; ASTM Grade 9

at FIKO Electron-Beam Metallurgical plant.

1. Titanium ingots can be produced as
a) CP (commercially pure) titanium ingots which fall into two groups – titanium ingots, titanium ingot with low oxygen content 0.04-0.08% and with alloyed oxygen content as per ASTM Grade-1; ASTM Grade-2; ASTM Grade-3, ASTM Grade-4.
b) titanium ingots with ligature supplement, melted according to ASTM Grade 5, Grade 9
and GOST OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6, VT6S, VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT3V, PT7M.

2. Titanium ingots, titanium ingot are manufactured in different diameters.
FIKO metallurgical plant produced titanium ingots dia 370mm, dia 400mm, dia 630mm. at present a new melting facility is being constructed which aimed to melt titanium ingots dia 800mm, 860mm.

3. Titanium ingots, titanium ingot are produced in different lengths.
We melted titanium ingots with length 1000-2000mm. The new facility will be able to melt titanium ingots up to 4000mm in length.

4. Titanium ingots, titanium ingot are produced in different weight.
The weight of titanium ingots produced by us before weighted 700 to 3200 kg. With new melting furnace we will have possibility to melt ingots of nearly 12 000 kg mass.
The main parameters of titanium ingots depend on market demands. For production of titanium bars the most suitable will be titanium ingot dia 370mm, for rolling of titanium sheets and titanium plates the ingots with dia 630-860mm are the best choice.
Very often customer require titanium ingots Ti6Al-4V dia 200-250mm. Usually, such titanium ingots are used in production of titanium golf clubs instead of more expensive titanium bars.

5. FIKO’s new melting facility is also purposed for melting titanium slabs.
Titanium slabs will be produced in following dimensions
height of titanium slab - 400-500 mm
width of titanium slab - 1050-1325 mm
length of titanium slab - 4000 mm
Titanium slabs will be supplied either in turned (machined) condition or with non-machined surface.

FIKO metallurgical plant manufactures titanium ingots both turned and not turned with dia 370, 400, 450, 510, 600, 630, 800 mm and titanium slabs both machined and non-machined and supplies such titanium ingots and titanium slabs to the market of Asia, Europe and America.

The control of quality of titanium ingots and titanium slabs starts with titanium sponge, titanium scrap and titanium cuttings quality control.
In manufacture of titanium ingots, titanium slabs, titanium ingot, titanium slab the following grades of titanium sponge are used TG-90, TG-100, TG-110, TG-120, TG-130 and in exceptional cases TG-150.

Titanium scrap, used in melting it into titanium ingots, titanium slabs, titanium ingot, titanium slab, can be ASTM Grade-1; ASTM Grade-2; ASTM Grade-3, ASTM Grade-4, ASTM Grade 5, Grade 9 or GOST OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6, VT6S, VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT3V, PT7M.
Titanium sponge should be supplied in pressurized drums and accompanied by quality certificate. The chemical composition of titanium sponge is checked by analyses and if the results conform to the figures indicated in certificate, the sponge is used in production of titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab, titanium slabs.

Before melting of titanium ingots or titanium slabs, titanium sponge should be pressed and sorted in accordance to customers’ demands regarding oxygen and iron content. Such sorting of titanium sponge allows us to make orders for titanium ingots with low oxygen content 0.04-0.08%.
In case we have to melt titanium ingots or titanium slabs with high oxygen content 0.20-0.25%, then TiO2 is added to titanium sponge while pressing. After that titanium sponge is prepared for melting.
At our plant titanium ingots, titanium slabs are melted by electron-beam method.
The process of manufacture of titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab, titanium slabs is rather laborious and difficult because there are no companies in Ukraine who could supply titanium scrap in prepared for melting condition. The specialists of FIKO have to sort out titanium scrap thoroughly because the quality and purity of titanium ingots and titanium slabs depends on the quality of titanium scrap.
FIKO metallurgical plant usually melts Ukrainian titanium scrap into titanium ingots and titanium slabs only of VT1-0, VT6 and PT3V grades, because in melting titanium scrap consisting of the pieces of titanium bars, sheets and plates some part of alloyed elements are burned out and it is necessary to add the ligature. That’s why the production of titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab, titanium slabs in OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT7M is not profitable.
Moreover, titanium ingots and titanium slabs in OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6, VT6S, VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT3V, PT7M should be double melted.

This is the reason we are interested in partners from Europe, Japan, South Korea, USA who supply titanium scrap (remains of titanium bars, titanium sheets and titanium tubes) ASTM Grade-1; Grade-2; Grade-3, Grade-4; Ti6Al/4V; Grade-5; Grade-9.
Titanium scrap from titanium bars, titanium sheets, titanium plates, titanium tubes should be sorted and prepared for melting and supplied with quality certificate.
The best scrap for melting titanium ingots and titanium slabs if the scrap from titanium sheets and titanium plates, because titanium scrap from titanium bars and titanium tubes cannot be piled into melting boxes tight enough. The scrap from titanium sheets and titanium plates is preferable because one melting yield of titanium ingot or titanium slab from sheets plates scrap is more than
from scrap of bars and tubes.

After melting of titanium ingot or titanium slab it is cooling stage. Then titanium ingot or titanium slab is turned. While turning the test samples are picked out for analysis of chemical composition of melted titanium ingots or titanium slabs. Titanium turnings taken from definite titanium ingot or titanium scrap are forwarded to laboratory for analysis. After we get the conclusion of chemical laboratory we issue quality certificate for titanium ingot or titanium slab.

Ultrasonic testing is carried out only for titanium ingots and titanium slabs with mechanically turned (machined) surface. In certificate for such titanium ingots or slabs we make a mark about ultrasonic control. In case customer’s demand is titanium ingot or titanium slab is with non-machined condition it is supplied without ultrasonic testing.

 

20. Supply of titanium bar, titanium bars, titanium slab, titanium slabs and manufacturing technique of titanium-forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium-forged bar, titanium circle.

 

Titanium ingot is applied for manufacture of titanium forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium forged bar.

Depending on diameter of titanium-forged bars, titanium forging, titanium bar it is used different titanium ingots or titanium ingot.

 FIKO Electron-beam metallurgical plant can manufacture and supply titanium forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium bar dia. 40-650mm.Diameter of titanium forged bar, titanium forging, titanium bar depends on whether mechanical properties are necessary for bar.

 

Sometimes titanium forged bars, titanium forgings without mechanical properties are necessary for industrial enterprises. And titanium ingots of minimal diameter are used for such titanium bars that give an opportunity to manufacture competitive titanium forged bar with a low cost value because of absence mechanical properties on titanium bar, since difference is minimal between titanium ingot and titanium forged bar, titanium forging, titanium circle, titanium bar.

 

 

Practically there is no operating capacity in Ukraine for manufacturing of titanium sheets and titanium plates and they have to be manufactured on a give-and-take basis from Ukrainian titanium ingots or titanium slabs, but for manufacture of titanium forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium bars there are many operating capacities for melt of titanium ingots into titanium forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium circles, titanium bars and even titanium forged slabs.

 

Manufacturing technique of titanium-forged bars begins from manufacture of titanium ingots. FIKO Electron-beam metallurgical plant can melt titanium ingots dia. 370, 400, 600, 630, 800, 860mm. For manufacture of competitive diameter of titanium ingot the crystallizer is changed.

Depending on received order and diameter of titanium forged bars titanium forged slabs, titanium forgings, titanium circles, titanium bars FIKO Electron-beam metallurgical plant can melt titanium ingots which are necessary for manufacture of mentioned above titanium bars. We would not describe manufacturing technique of titanium ingots because you can find it on our website.

 

But for manufacture of any titanium bars including:

a)      titanium forged bars

b)      titanium forgings

c)      titanium circles

d)      titanium hot rolled bars 

e)      titanium bars

it is necessary  that titanium ingots pass ultrasonic inspection.

               If titanium ingots did not pass ultrasonic test and blisters will be in titanium ingots it brings to output of defective titanium bars or titanium bar.

The second important meaning for manufacture of titanium forged bars, titanium forgings, titanium circles, titanium bars, titanium forged slabs from titanium alloys is quantity of melting of ingots.

Aircraft industry needs double – or triple melting.

After examination of titanium ingot on ultrasonic test, titanium ingot is passed on reforge. Titanium ingots after passing reforge stage turn into titanium-forged bar, titanium forged slabs, titanium forgings, titanium circles, and titanium bars and quality certificates are issued for them.

For that it is taken samples from titanium bars for:

a)                  Definition of chemical composition of titanium forged bar, titanium forging, titanium circle, titanium bar, titanium-forged slab.

b)                 Definition of gas content of titanium forged bar, titanium forging, titanium circle, titanium bar, titanium-forged slab.

c)                  Definition of mechanical properties of titanium forged bar, titanium forging, titanium circle, titanium bar, titanium-forged slab.

The certificate of quality is issued when FIKO Electron-beam metallurgical plant has chemical and gas analyses for titanium bars, titanium forgings, titanium forged bars, titanium forged slab, titanium circles and also it has conclusion about mechanical properties of titanium bars, titanium forgings, titanium forged bars, titanium forged slab, titanium circles.

The certificate of quality is issued for titanium forged bar, titanium bar, titanium forged slab, titanium slab, titanium forging, titanium circle as well as for a lot of for titanium forged bar, titanium bar, titanium forged slab, titanium slab, titanium forging, titanium circle.

Before the certificate will be issued FIKO electron-beam metallurgical plant compares chemical composition of titanium ingot from which titanium bars are manufactured with chemical composition of manufactured titanium forged bars, titanium forged slabs, titanium forgings, titanium circles and titanium bars.

Titanium bars which have Mpa  more then 900 are double –purpose materials so we need to get export licence.

FIKO Ltd supplies titanium rolled materials for production of medical instruments and implants. The standard materials for this are titanium bars and titanium wire, which are manufactured by means of forging and rolling of titanium ingots and titanium slabs into titanium bars, titanium sheets, titanium tubes. Titanium materials for medical application

 

The first stage is titanium ingots (titanium ingot) production – VT1-0, VT6, VT16, VT6C, Ti6Al-4V, Grade 5.

Titanium ingot (titanium ingots) is melted from titanium sponge grade TG90, TG100, TG 110, TG120, TG130, TG150, TG TV. Sponge TG TV and TG150 is mostly used for FeTi production, while for titanium ingots the sponge of grades TG90, TG100, TG 110, TG120, TG130 is needed.

 

The only manufacturers of titanium sponge in CIS countries are Zaporozhje Titanium Magnesium Plant, Ust’-Kamenogorsky Titanium Magnesium Plant, Bereznjakovsky Titanium Magnesium Plant.

 

Titanium sponge is being initially pressed into titanium expendable boxes, and after drying is fed to melting chamber of electron-beam facility.

In melting titanium ingot ASTM Grade 2 and VT1-0 not only titanium sponge, but also titanium cuttings (turnings) are used, that should be mixed with titanium sponge in a certain ratio. Titanium scrap – pieces of titanium plates or titanium sheets VT1-0, Grade 1, Grade 2 is also applicable in this case.

 

After melting titanium ingots undergo mechanical treatment – the surface of titanium ingot is being turned (machined) – and the turnings and cut off pieces that are left after mechanical treatment of titanium ingots are repeatedly used as a raw material for ingots melting. Then the ultrasonic testing is being carried out.

 

The melting of Grade 5, Ti6Al-4V, VT6, VT6S, VT16 titanium ingots is more complicated process, since these grades are titanium alloys.

For production of titanium ingots VT6, VT6S, VT16 the following grades of titanium sponge is used: TG90, TG100, TG 110, TG120, TG130 as well as titanium scrap and titanium cuttings VT6, VT6S, VT16.

Moreover, for melting of titanium ingots Grade 5, Ti6Al-4V, VT6, VT6S the ligature may be used (the booster alloys, used for alloying elements supplement into liquid metal).

 

Electron-beam method, which we apply in melting titanium ingots, allows to get material of good quality in one melting.

After that titanium ingots Grade 5, Ti6Al-4V, VT6, VT6S can be further processed into titanium rolled materials – titanium turned bars, titanium forged bars, titanium sheets, titanium coil Grade 5, Ti6Al-4V, VT6, VT6S.
